Shrinking Volumes
To shrink a volume on Windows 7 the Disk Defragmenting Service needs to be running. If it is set to disabled a dialog box will appear:
Virtual Disk Manager
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
